about

I played with Gito Baloi in his last show, on 4 April 2004. A few hours later he was brutally murdered on the streets of downtown Johannesburg. This was my humble attempt of writing something in his musical style, hence the 5/4-timesignature which is at the heartbeat of some traditional Mozambican music. The vocal melody, with his voice in mind was so beautifully captured by Brendan Jury’s viola. We integrated Gito at the end of the song by adding a sample of his voice from one of our last concerts together. A chilling cry and beautifully haunting.
